Working/Planning to Advance Transportation and Health Equity
3:00 pm ET
Presenters:
Representatives from Ohio and Kentucky will share their respective stories on this webinar. One of the goals for the KY State Physical Activities and Nutrition (SPAN) Program and the KY Transportation Cabinet is to see Kentucky communities accommodating all modes of transportation, and to provide access to safe and convenient opportunities for physical activity via walking or bicycling, whenever and wherever possible. Both programs work together to provide statewide consultation, resources, and guidance for ALL things related to community walking and bicycling. One of the most important ways a community can accommodate walking and bicycling travel as viable transportation and recreation is by having a complete walk/bike master plan. These detailed plans engage community members to identify priorities for creating a safe, attractive walking and biking environment for people of all ages and abilities. A non-motorized transportation plan adopted by local government will serve as official documentation of your community's need and readiness for improvements to pedestrian and bicycling facilities. Having these plans developed to a certain level of readiness provides opportunities to incorporate into future transportation projects or apply for funding to design and/or construct these projects.
